Gynecomastia can be a cause of psychological atrophy
“Gynecomastia” refer to a women-like development in men’s chest because of fat distribution or mammary glands. This is most common during puberty, when the hormone levels are unstable, and the condition often goes away after puberty when testosterone becomes dominant. However, there are cases in which the symptoms do not improve even after reaching maturity: when a large amount of fat has already been stored in the area, or the development of mammary glands enlarges the nipples and their surrounding area.
Gynecomastia causes mental stress, such as loss of confidence in social life. As personal effort is difficult to correct, it requires a surgical method to correct it.

Appropriate corrective measure must be taken, depending on the cause
There are two ways to correct gynecomastia—liposuction and subcutaneous mastectomy—and it is important to select the correct method for each patient. Liposuction is more effective for obesity-caused fat storage, but fibrosis in breast tissues requires subcutaneous mastectomy. In a mixed case, both methods may be carried out simultaneously.
As gynecomastia is most commonly developed during puberty, treatment should take place after reaching maturity, after the patient’s hormone levels have normalized. Barring special cases in which the patient suffers from a rare illness that causes hormone imbalance, the surgery permanently removes gynecomastia with a little risk of recurrence.
-
Breast Liposuction
This is appropriate in cases where the gynecomastia is caused by intense fat storage in the chests. A relatively small incision is made under the breasts, and the fat is liquefied with ultrasound and laser then sucked out. If the patient has developed much mammary gland tissues, subcutaneous mastectomy can be carried out together for greater results.
-
Subcutaneous Mastectomy
This is more appropriate in cases where the gynecomastia is caused by overdeveloped mammary gland tissues. A relatively small incision is made around the nipples, the inner tissues are removed, and the incision is stitched back up. The key is to adjust the height in consideration of the external shape of the chest, and this is the most effective method in correcting the protrusion around the nipples.
