Inverted nipples is a disease that many people have unexpectedly

Inverted nipples are conditions in which the nipples are not protruding enough from the areola and breast line or are inside the chest. Statistically, about 3% of women around the world have Inverted nipples, so many of them are worried about it. The cause of inverted nipples is acquired factors such as breast cancer and mastitis, but in most cases, inverted nipples develop because of natural factors, such as insufficient areola-supporting tissues, short lactiferous drifts, or the nipples being held onto by dense tissues around the lactiferous drifts.

Inverted nipples come in three types, from 1 to 3. Types 1 and 2 nipples retain a normal position either most of the time or when stimulated, while type 3 nipples always remain inverted.

Types 1 or 2 nipples do not necessitate correction or may even be corrected through your own efforts, but we recommend surgical options for type 3 nipples.

Often retain a normal position but occasionally become inverted

  • Type 3

    Remain inverted even under stimuli

Surgical treatment needed

If you understand the purpose correctly, the surgery has more benefits

An inverted nipple correction provides not only aesthetic improvement but also greater benefit, which is restoring the nipple’s normal functions. A normal nipple has two functions: as an erogenous zone and as a breastfeeding mechanism.

An insufficiently protruded nipple cannot fully function as intended. In addition, inverted nipples keep the skin folded for an extended period: this encourages secretion deposit and increases the chance of inflammation.

Frequent inflammation can become a serious problem while breastfeeding and increases the chance of breast cancer. For healthy breasts, an inverted nipple correction is necessary.

Purpose of inverted nipple correction
  • + Greater confidence through aesthetic improvement

  • + Restoration of normal functionality (e.g., erogenous zone, breastfeeding, etc.)

  • + Healthier breast through better hygiene

There are many approaches: we want to find the right one for you

Inverted nipple correction can be done in various ways, depending on the state of the subject nipples, but a major element in surgical methodology is whether to leave the lactiferous drifts intact to allow for future breastfeeding.

In most cases, leaving the lactiferous drifts intact is ideal. However, in some severe cases in which the nipples may be re-inverted in the future, or if the patient has no plans for future breastfeeding, the aesthetics and patient health become priorities over the possibility of breastfeeding.

The nipples are pulled to normal protrusion, and the area below the nipples are fixed into place through a small incision and stitching, according to the inversion causes. This does not interfere with future breastfeeding, but the approach cannot be used when the degree of inversion is severe.

An incision is made near the nipple, lactiferous drifts and fiber tissues are pulled to bring the nipple to protrusion, and skin flap is used to support and fix the nipple into place. This may interfere with future breastfeeding depending on the state in which the lactiferous drifts are in, but this approach is appropriate in severe cases and has a low chance of re-inversion.

More effective through a long experience and skills

The nipples, despite their small size, have a complex structure because of their many functions. Accordingly, the inversion comes in many forms as well. This is why it is important for the surgeon to possess refined skills and provide individualized surgeries to correctly treat inverted nipples.

During the consultation stage, BANOBAGI thoroughly examines the nipple conditions, makes calculations, and selects an appropriate surgical approach. This gives our patients high overall satisfaction—in aesthetics, functionality, and hygiene—and lowers the risk of re-inversion. In addition, we try to minimize tissue damage through a quick and precise operation, giving you less worries about scarring and a swifter recovery.

Benefits of BANOBAGI Inverted Nipple Correction
  • + Comparatively short surgery time and recovery

  • + Precise surgery that leaves almost no visible mark

  • + Nipples that fit your breasts

  • + Individualized surgery and low re-inversion chance

The biggest worry of nipple correction patients is the scarring that incision leaves.

Inverted nipple correction is a relatively simple procedure. The pain level is relatively low, and the recovery is on the quicker side as well.
Moreover, the incision required for the procedure is relatively small, and our collaboration with BANOBAGI Dermatology Clinic leaves the scar almost invisible.
Patients may experience pain, but this will diminish over time.
Patients may experience tightness in the area.
Antibiotics will be prescribed to prevent infection.

Nipple reduction, It is a chance to be proud from the complex.

A nipple comes in various sizes, depending on its shape or the size of the breasts, but in general, 8 mm in height and 10 mm in diameter is considered ideal. If a patient has nipples larger than this, or if the nipples are too big in proportion of the breasts, nipple reduction may be considered. Large nipples may be a congenital condition, but they are mostly caused by breastfeeding, repeated stimulation, or injury. In many of these cases, the patient rapidly loses confidence from the enlarged nipples, and it becomes a source of stress.

Nipple reduction is not a medical necessity. However, in a psychological sense, it is an important procedure to consider as it gives the patient confidence and a healthy body image.

Causes of Enlarged Nipples
  • Breastfeeding
  • Deformation from injury
  • Repeated stimulation
  • Congenital enlargement
  • Normal nipple size:height 7-9mm, diameter 10mm

It is more effective to find the right one among various methods.

Nipple reduction is a relatively simple procedure, and side effects are rare. However, the level of satisfaction can give depends heavily on the surgeon. Nipple enlargement comes in various forms—in circumference, height, and even tilt— and it is important to select an effective surgical method for the individual patient.

With our years of knowledge and experience in breast surgery, BANOBAGI is proficient in many different surgical approaches, among which we select the best-suited option for you. More effective and natural-looking nipple reduction is the source of our confidence.

An incision is made into the skin as much as needed to reduce the nipple height, and then stitched back up. The advantage is that it preserves the function of the lactiferous-drifts

L-Shaped Incision

  • L-Shaped Incision STEP 04
    STEP 04

An L-shaped incision is made in the upper nipple, and the remaining part is folded downwards to reduce the nipple height. This is a quicker procedure and is relatively more effective in height reduction.

V-Shaped Incision

  • V-Shaped Incision STEP 04
    STEP 04

A V-shaped incision is made in the upper nipple, and the remaining part is stitched up. This is more effective in reducing the overall nipple volume than the nipple height, and there is a risk of the lactiferous drifts becoming blocked off.
