re-operation is needed, there is
no room for hesitation.
In our consultations, some patients ask if revision surgeries necessarily yield worse outcome than the original procedure. Such beliefs have no evidence, but often becomes a reason for hesitation for even those who certainly need a second surgery.
We are able to surgically correct even bone structures now: revision blepharoplasty—a correction of skin— is relatively simple.
If a correct method is selected with thorough examination, and if the clinic has the ability to carry out the plans without error, revision surgeries may yield satisfying results, just as the original procedure.
is like untying a messy
tangle a knot at a time.
There are many reasons for a revision blepharoplasty:
functional issues of the eye after a surgery,
dissatisfaction with the eye shape, severe scarring or untied knot are all possible,
and such issues may simultaneously arise.
Even in an identical issue, the severity always differs in individuals:
this puts the highest importance upon an accurate diagnosis when it comes to a revision blepharoplasty.
Every factor must be examined one by one —what characteristics the eyes had initially, which procedure was carried out, what was the reason for the unsatisfactory result, how the current shape of the eye has set, what condition the skin is in now— and the solution towards the correct revision must be sought.
03 Loosened eyelids
In the early years of double-eyelid surgery, the fold in an eyelid often came loose. However, now that the surgical techniques have improved, the possibility of the loosening is virtually nonexistent. If a double-eyelid has disappeared from a recent surgery, it hints at the technical deficiency of the surgeon. BANOBAGI uses an advanced burying technique to prevent the procedure from being undone, with the help of more secure knots.

In rare cases, the double-eyelids naturally loosen themselves: this requires discussion and decision on whether another burying should be done, or an incision technique should be used
Dispreference towards making an incision
It is possible to create a desired eye-shape through other comprehensive procedures such as the new method of epicanthoplasty, devised by BANOBAGI. A flexible mindset that considers various possibilities without fixating on a double-eyelid is required.
The endgame of blepharoplasty is to create beautiful eyes that fit the patient’s looks: it is important to not obsess over double-eyelids and consider various possibilities.
04 In a severe case of asymmetrical eyelids
It is difficult to evaluate an asymmetrical eyelid before roughly six months has passed after the procedure and the swelling has completely diminished.
Even if a little asymmetry is present after the swelling has gone away, re-operation is not necessary.
The human body does not normally form a perfect symmetry: a minor asymmetry is even natural, and identically shaped eyelids may seem different due to asymmetrical elements surrounding the eye.
Because diagnosis of asymmetry involves a psychological element, it is important to consult a specialist.
If a revision blepharoplasty is direly desired or the asymmetry is severe,
a correction can be readily made according to the desired height.
05 Persistent swelling
Medically speaking, the swelling
is considered nonexistent aftersix to twelve months
after the procedure. If the swelling seems to be unnaturally present after this period, it usually points to a faulty double-eyelid design. In such cases, a relatively easy correction can be made by removing and re-establishing the double-eyelid.
A complex case that involves blepharoptosis
Some patients with blepharoptosis may experience persistent swelling.
This is due to the lack of muscle strength in eyelids, resulting in the lower half of the double-eyelid being unable to be pushed back upwards.
In the past, the only way to correct blepharoptosis was to make an incision, and those who opted to not make an incision had to proceed with the operation without addressing the blepharoptosis.
However, BANOBAGI also offers a non-incision eyeline correction, allowing for a safer and more natural result.
